Tennis for Wii Sports is played only with the Wii Remote and can be played with four players but each need their own remotes. Your running is controlled the computer while the swinging is controlled by the remote, the game will recognize two kinds of swings forehand and backhand. The angle the ball is hit depends on which kind of swing you are using and the timing of when you hit the ball. When turning the remote during your swing you can put a spin on the ball and this can be used with both types of swings. When you're serving push “A” to throw the ball up and swing to hit the ball to the other side, you can gain a power serve if you hit the ball at its highest peak.
The scoring and rules are the same in regular tennis, when one side reaches 40 they can win on the next shot if they are two points ahead. When a side is only one point away from winning they are given advantage, if they lose that point it goes back to a tie until one side wins. There are many combinations of gameplay in tennis, in single player you can play against a pair of CPUs with you controlling both players on your team or controlling one while teamed up with a CPU. In two players you can be on a team against two CPUs, each on a team with a CPU or both players face each other controlling both players on their team. When there are three players two players team up against a player and a CPU or two players team up to face the other player who controls both players on his side. When there are four players you can only play with each team having two players facing each other. The higher skill points you have the stronger CPUs you will face, when you reach 2000 you can face the champion Elisa.
