Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse is a 2.5D platform and remake of the 1990 Sega Genesis of the same name with similar gameplay and reinvisioned levels, puzzles, and enemies. The plot follows the previous game, with Mickey Mouse fighting his way through the Castle of Illusion to rescue Minnie Mouse from an evil witch Mizrabel, who wants to steal her beauty.
Health & Death
Mickey has a total of 5 health indicated by gold stars in the upper left corner of the screen. When hit, Mickey loses a star and when all stars are depleted he will die. Stars can be regenerated by finding Gold Stars located throughout the levels to heal one star at a time.
Lives are indicated by the gold Mickey ears located in the top left. Like Stars, when depleted you will get a Game Over but can replenish them by finidng Gold Mickey Ears throughout the levels.
Progressing Through Levels
The player primarily controls Mickey by running, jumping, ducking and bouncing through the levels.
Enemies pose the majority of the obstacles that Mickey will encounter on his way through Mizerable's castle. To defeat enemies, Mickey can bounce on their heads or throwing projectiles, found throughout the levels that are consumed when used. By bouncing on multiple enemies in a row, players can get bonus points toward the final level score.
Once in a while Mickey will encounter a puzzle that he needs to solve. These are the rare occassions when the game is allows the player to move in more directions than right and left.
Collectibles
While making his way to Mizerabel, Mickey can find many items in his journey's such as:
- Diamonds - found throughout the levels and in chests, opened only by projectiles, Diamonds unlock the next level and certain unlockables that can be viewed in the mansion.
- Magic Playing Cards - a total of 5 cards are hidden throughout the game and unlock a trophy/achievement when all are found.
- Castle Statue Pieces - a total of 10 pieces are hidden throughout the game and unlock a trophy/achievement when all are found.
- Donald's Chilli Peppers - a total of 5 peppers are hidden throughout the game and unlock a trophy/achievement when all are found.
