When in combat, there are many elements to be aware of such as combat stats and equipment. These elements, next to tactful strategy, are significant in knowing how to defeat the toughest of opponents because they can help you figure out your opponents' weaknesses. They can also help you become aware of your own character's weaknesses and would enable you to develop the right strategies around them if you can. Below are a list of the elements as well as their specifics and what they mean.
Combat Stats
These stats determine how well and accurate you can attack.
| Attack Power | The amount of powerful damage you can deal to your enemies in your current setup. |
| Attack Speed | The speed of the swing of your weapon. |
| Poise | The total amount of poise in your current setup. |
| Energy Consumption | How much energy is consumed per swing by your current setup. |
Damage Types
There are multiple types of attacks you can use to deal damage to your enemies.
| Physical | The amount of damage inflicted as physical. |
| Magic | The amount of damage inflicted as magic. |
| Fire | The amount of damage inflicted as fire. |
| Poison | The amount of damage inflicted as poison. |

Defense Types
As well as attacking with certain types, you can also have a defense against the same types when your enemies use them on you.

Other Elements
These are other factors to consider while in combat.
| Poise | Poise is the player and enemies' resistance to staggering. Armor and Shields determine your total poise value, that is often countered by weight and thus relevant to your equipment load. |
| Magic | Magic is the total amount of "mana" pool that the player has for casting spells. Magic regeneration is affected by trinkets, and the balanced use of this resource will be important for those focused on casting. |
| Focus | This is Lord of the Fallen's Lock-On system. Activated by pressing the right analog stick on your controller, it will make Harkyn concentrate on one enemy that is marked. |
| Energy | This is Lord of the Fallen's Stamina. Performing attacks, blocking, rolling and sprinting drain your energy, so this resource must be managed properly for successful encounters. |
Status Effects
Many different enemies in the game can cause any of these status effects. Below are the status effects, what they do, and how you can prevent or reduce their damage.
| Poison | Causes the player's HP to drain over a period of time, checking against your poison defense. |
| You may improve your poison defense by selecting the right shields or using Poison Runes on your defensive gear. | |
| Fire | Fire causes the player's HP to drain over a period of time, checking against your fire defense. |
| You may improve your fire defense by selecting the right shields or using Fire Runes on your defensive gear. |
