The Crocodile will wander around until it notices you, and will immediately become hostile, and can prove quite formidable to low level players. The Crocodile will attack with its claws or perform a special maneuver in which the crocodile does a helicopter like motion, and can hit several times, similar to the Ogre's spinning attack.
Crocodiles can be tamed using the Apple Ring food item.
