Phantasy Star Online 2 - Gameplay

Character Creation

For Phantasy Star Online 2, Sega has gone deep into their system and given the players options to have a vast arsenal of options. From changing eyes to lips to body size, both height and girth, it makes for a remarkable creation.

Each and every player will have a character that will never have another that looks exactly the same. Besides having three races, each with a female and male option, there are a ton of clothing options and weapon options and of course the various classes that you are able to choose from.

Bringing all of this together makes for a very large scale on creating a character, making whichever character you play with feel unique and your own.

Battle System and Maps

For this, Sega has gone with the same as their character creation, giving wide availability. Jumping in and out of battle is very easily done and it becomes even more so with ever changing maps.

Each time you begin a new map, it has been altered, changed in a way that allows for the player to have something new, even when playing the same area again. Sometimes there are big changes to the map and sometimes small, but there are always changes.

These changes include the weapon system. As your character advances, you will be given new abilities and slots. This means you can carry more than one type of weapon, various attacks linked to buttons and have those attacks change as soon as you press another button.

A ranger can run around with a gun with two attacks linked to left and right mouse buttons. Hold shift and two new attacks that you linked will now be usable on the mouse. A system that can get a little complicated in the midst of a massive battle when fifteen other players are all bombarding the same area.

Phantasy Star Online 2 focuses on a battle system that works on real time, meaning enemies attack as soon as they see you and so does your team mates. This means that battles happen quickly and at a very fast pace. With so many options for you to use right at your finger tips, it does make the battles feel smooth and quick.

Quests

For the quest system, everything happens in what could be called realtime. While you may be running around with a certain quest, enemies would randomly spawn, other players would join the same map you're on and bosses would spawn in the middle of the map.

This is luckily helped out by your friend's list. Even if your friends are offline, they are able to join you in your game as AI controlled allies, giving you the edge when fighting against large groups of enemies and bosses. Some quests have certain extras on to them, such as timed maps and waves of enemies, making the quests different from the usual, run from a to b.

Customization

I mentioned character creation as the top but this would fall under the catagory but in a different way. Each player plays their own way and with Phantasy Star Online 2, it feels that you are able to reach that goal. With a small little mag bot hovering by you that will gain experience depending on what you feed it, to which weapons you play with and how you play your class.

Customization also extends to "my room". Here you are able to add various items and objects to make it feel like your own carefree place of resting. There are different size rooms to choose from, various accessories, renting options and the ability to move them about. Include the shops who all sell a massive amount of clothing, weapons and other assortment of items, you look at a near endless list of options to play around with.
