Lilith is Borderlands' 'Siren' class. Within the game world of Borderlands, there are supposed to be only six remaining Sirens (of which Lilith is one); women who have been altered by alien technology to become superhuman.
Background:
Her being a Siren is a large part of the reason that Lilith is on Pandora; she's driven to find others of her kind, one of which is known to be on Pandora (it's speculated that the person she seeks in Commandant Steele, who is rumoured to be a Siren because of her similarlity in appearance with Lilith and the tattoos she has on display).
Gameplay:
Lilith can be utilised effectively in a number of different ways: as a close-range assassin long-range combatant, or elemental damage dealer.
Her 'Action Skill', Phasewalk, grants her the ability to turn invisible. Once invisible she can move incredibly quickly, and upon leaving phasewalk she creates a Phase Blast which deals damage to enemies. This allows her to effectively sneak up to (or away from) enemes. Phasewalk, combined with melee attacks, makes Lilith a viable melee combatant.
Her three skill trees are: Assassin, which allows her to increase both her melee and ranged damage; Elemental, which adds bonuses for weapons that employ explosive, static, incendiary and corrosive damage; and Controller, which gives her the ability to daze targets she attacks and boosts her shields.
Trivia:
- Whilst there are reportedly only six Sirens in the Borderlands universe, the official Borderlands Game Guide says that there are actually thirteen Sirens in existence.
- Each Siren has an ability unique to themselves, which explains Lilith's ability to Phasewalk into another dimension for a brief period of time.
- The Sirens in Borderlands are based on the Sirens of Greek mythology; seductresses that lured sailors to their deaths with their singing. Lilith's own name also has its origins in mythology - it's commonly associated with demonic and elemental entities.
- According to unused texture profiles, Lilith's full name and title is 'Dr. Lilith Cashlin, Mercenary Scientist'.

- Lilith is seen using her Phasewalk ability on the bus in the introduction video, but she must level up to 5 to use it in-game.
- Lilith is rumoured to make an appearance in Borderlands 2 as a live action NPC, played by Yasemin Arslan.
