| Items | Enemies |
|---|---|
| Potion | Goblin |
| 200 pg | Goblin Archer |
| Strange Hourglass | Goblin Slasher |
| Sky Archer | |
| Sky Dueler |
Go forward a little bit and you're forced into a battle that will teach you the basics of the Brave and Default commands. This is a fairly straightforward area, with one or two paths that split from the main one. At the first split, take the southern one to go to the next screen, where you'll see a chest that contains a Potion.
Go back to the previous screen and head to the next area, where you'll see a path that leads to the south. Take it to find another chest that has 200 pg in it. The rest is linear and will lead straight to the Adventurer, so save and he will give you the Strange Hourglass. Go into the area next to the Adventurer to initiate a series of cutscenes.
| Sleep Points, or SP, basically lets you freeze time during battles through the Bravely Second mechanic. Any action that consumes BP will instead use SP instead when using it. SP can be replenished by buying SP Drinks or by running the game while the system's in sleep mode, with one SP being replenished every 8 hours. |
After the cutscenes are over, Agnes will join your party and you need to escape from Norende Ravine. Along the way, you will get into three forced fights, with the first two being against a single Sky Dueler and then the last fight being a Sky Dueler and a Sky Archer. Treat them as just stronger versions of the enemies you've been fighting so far.
Once you exit Norende Ravine, you'll get a small tutorial about the social features of the game. One of the better features is by going to the save menu and using Update Data, which will get you Net-Invites, or extra villagers when rebuilding Norende Village (which you will get to shortly). Head back to Caldisla and speak to the king again, prompting you to start rebuilding Norende.
| Rebuilding Norende Village requires the use of villagers, which can be obtained either through StreetPass or via the Update Data option under the save menu. You can basically build shops here that offer goods that you can buy from the Adventurer wherever he is. This is a great way to get good to powerful equipment early on. |
It's best to equip Agnes with the same items you have on Tiz, since you're going to be getting into a boss fight soon. If you want to play around with Norende a bit, do so. Whenever you're ready, exit the town and head southwest to the lake. After a few more cutscenes, you'll be thrown into a boss battle!
| BOSS BATTLE | ||
|---|---|---|
| Boss Name | HP | Weakness |
| Barras Lehr | 300 | None |
| Holly Whyte | 250 | None |
| This is the first true boss battle of the game and it can provide a little bit of a challenge. Holly is a White Mage and can heal both her and Barras if she wanted, so it might be a good idea to concentrate on her first. She also knows Protect, as well as Aero, which can hurt your characters a lot. Barras, on the other hand, is a physical brute and can use Invigorate to boost his attack slightly. Barras can also Brave and will often pair Invigorate with a physical attack after using Brave, which can deal around 30-35 damage. It's best to keep track of his HP (with Examine if you want), as when he gets low on HP, he'll use Invigorate and explode (like Bombs do in Final Fantasy games, although he won't die unless it makes his HP reach zero). This damages you and both Holly and him, so be careful here. | ||
Winning this battle will get you both the White Mage and Monk classes. It's probably best to have Agnes switch to the White Mage and have Tiz switch to the Monk, if you want. What classes you choose for your characters is up to you entirely, but having a White Mage will make it so you don't have to depend on Potions for healing.
Anyways, head back to Caldisla and talk to the king, who says it's a good idea to rest at the inn. Go to the inn to make another cutscene start, after which Ringabel will join your party. You also gain access to D's Journal, which chronicles a bunch of characters/locations, as well as new items or enemies you defeat. Before leaving Caldisla, make sure you choose a job for Ringabel, equip him and it's a good idea to buy Cure and Blindna.
