Price and SKUs
On Thursday, September 13th Nintendo hosted a Wii U event for America, in which they detailed the price, launch software, and many of the system's services and plans going forward. The price was announced at $299 for the white, 8GB model and $349 for the premium black model, which included a pack-in game, charging dock for the controller, and more storage.
Services and Features
Nintendo also detailed the Nintendo TVii service, which unifies Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, and other TV and movie services you sign up for with your live TV into one mega-service, that lets you search for and sort TV shows and movies across all services at once. It also acts as a second screen while watching videos on that service, allowing players to get extra information from IMDB and Wikipedia.
Software Announcements
Among the major software announcements were the surprise announcement of Bayonetta 2, now a Wii U exclusive and published by Nintendo as a second party software title. It is being developed by the same team at Platinum Games that created the first entry. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is a new version of Monster Hunter 3 based off of the 3DS version of the game called Monster Hunter 3G in Japan. It will be for both Wii U and 3DS, and feature online play on Wii U and cross-platform multiplayer. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was also announced for Wii U, and includes dual-screen multiplayer, putting one player on the GamePad and another on the TV.
