Ada Wong is an ambiguous American-Chinesewoman who works for the series' villains, but also helps series protagonist Leon S. Kennedy in the Resident Evil series. Originally mentioned in the original Resident Evil (1996) as part of a letter from the Umbrella researcher John Clemens, she was not going to appear in the series until Capcom changed a character named Linda, who appears as an Umbrella Researcher in Resident Evil 2, to Ada Wong to connect her with the first game.
Since her creation she has appeared in multiple Resident Evil games, such as Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, Resident Evil 4, and Resident Evil 6. She has also appeared as a character in the live-action Resident Evil film, Resident Evil: Retribution and the browser-based social game Onimusha Soul with a redesign to fit the feudal Japan setting.
