Yoshi's first appearance was in Super Mario World, where he was a ridable companion. This was a common occurrence in the Super Mario series, with Yoshi being ridable in Super Mario Sunshine, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and New Super Mario Bros. U.
He made a minor cameo in Super Mario 64. If players got all 120 Power Stars, the cannon in the castle's courtyard would be accessible, allowing Mario to be launched onto the roof, where they would find Yoshi. Talking to him will get the player 100 lives, as well as an improved triple jump. In the Nintendo DS remake, Yoshi is an actual playable character, and the first one, as Mario, Luigi and Wario get caught by Bowser.
