The best thing about the Sims game is that you technically don't have to get job in order to get an income. Some informal jobs that your sim can do are:
Author
Gardener
Angler
Painter
Each career path allows you to earn income so you do not have to work a normal 9 to 5 job if that lifestyle does not suit you.
