Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is set 500 years after the events of Final Fantasy XIII-2, in the year 1000 AF. Lightning is awakened by Bhunivelze, the one who created Pulse, Lindzei and Etro. He deems Lightning to be the savior of the land, which is going to end in just thirteen days.
She is awakened in the world of Nova Chrysalia, where she is meant to rescue the souls of the dead, in order to guide them to a new world. In exchange, Bhunivelza would resurrect Serah for Lightning. Along the way, she will meet many of her old allies, as well as some old enemies.
