Arkham Origins marks the first time that multiplayer has been added to the Batman: Arkham franchise, and it is an extension on the Predator segments from the main campaign. There are a total of four maps available and the fight is between three different factions, the Joker gang, the Bane gang and the Heroes.
The villain's teams play out like a typical third-person shooter, with the ability to take cover and evade incoming attacks, as well as vault over obstacles. Batman and Robin play out like the Predator challenges separate from the campaign and during the actual story.
Objective
There are three players each in Joker's gang and in Bane's, with the Heroes consisting of both Batman and Robin. The objective for Joker's and Bane's group is to eliminate the opposing team, with each kill dropping their reinforcements. Once these reinforcements reach zero, the team just has to kill the remaining enemies to win the match.
For the Heroes, their objective is to eliminate members of both factions using stealth. As they take down these thugs, an Intimidation meter will start to fill up and once it's full, the heroes will win the match. There will be instances where Alfred will highlight the more notorious of enemies, who will fill up the meter further when defeated, and varying the takedowns will also do the same.
There's a slight twist to throw off the heroes, as if they get killed, then their Intimidation meter will drop slightly. If there is one remaining thug on either faction's side and they kill a hero, then that team will get a chance to comeback and the Intimidation meter will take a huge hit.
Enter the Villains
It wouldn't be fair to just have three nameless thugs against the likes of Batman and Robin. During a match, there will be a notice that a villain wants to enter the battle. This entry point will be marked on each faction's map and if one of the allied players get there, they can bring in their respective super villain.
These villains, Bane and the Joker, are a lot stronger than the normal thugs and have some special abilities. Bane is equipped with a rocket launcher and also has access to devastating melee and grappling maneuvers. While the Joker isn't as sturdy as Bane, he has access to two powerful handguns, as well as an electrified joy buzzer for encounters up close.
