Aralon: Sword and Shadow - List of Quests

Below is a list of all of the challenges (as far as I know) in Aralon: Sword and Shadow HD.  If there is anything missing, please let me know!!!!

  1. Delivery - given by the Innkeeper at the Fox & Grapes in Timbers Bend.
  2. Find Feskers - given by Aven in Timbers Bend.
  3. Sunberry Gathering - given by Hans Longstride in Timbers Bend.
  4. Tom Miller - given by Lyrah in Timbers Bend.
  5. Missing Husband - given by Thressa at the Fox & Grapes in Timbers Bend.
  6. Can I Offer My Assistance - given by Othel Black in an inn room at the Fox & Grapes.  After accepting this quest, I kill Othel Black.  He is a friendly target and will not affect your legal status and his life number is only 4 so he is relatively easy to kill.  This upgrades me two levels easily and he has gold plus some armor.
  7. Speak to Sufok - this is the first quest you receive and it comes from Sir Roderick.
  8. Assistance - given by Raquel in Taryn Ridge.
  9. Chief Kargath - given by Guard Rakthor just outside of Taryn Ridge, you must kill the gnoll chief, Kargath.  When you kill Kargath, you will receive "Kargath's Sword," a claw blade that is a very effective weapon.  There are also three chests in the Gnoll Cave, not including the loot you will receive from Kargath and his Gnolls.
  10. Safe Journey to Taryn Ridge - given by Elyssa in a small house just outside of Taryn Ridge.  The house is located on a path on the left of the main path from Timbers Bend to Taryn Ridge.  Speak to Elyssa and she will ask you to get her safely and quickly (within 3 minutes) to Taryn Ridge.
  11. Defense of Taryn Ridge - quest comes from Jarvis, a guard standing in the courtyard of Taryn Ridge.  Note that you cannot complete this quest until at least 8:00 at night (you can tell what time it is according to the time on the map).
  12. Bandit Trouble - get this challenge from Jarvis after you have completed Defense of Taryn Ridge. Note that if Jarvis dies in the fight with Kyle Stronghand's followers, you cannot receive this quest.
  13. Find Darius - given from Sufok and is the one with a glitch in it that allows you to collect 100 gold from selling the grey stallion deed repeatedly (see below).  Note that this is part of the main quest and must be completed.
  14. A Stolen Jewel - receive this quest from Ian, who is inside the Red Lion Inn in Taryn Ridge.  This challenge is linked with "An Ambush for Ian."  You can complete this quest and collect the reward while still completing the other competing quest too.
  15. An Ambush for Ian - given by Sirius Wilholme after you accept the "A Stolen Jewel" quest.  As mentioned immediately above, you can complete the A Stolen Jewel quest for Ian and then immediately come back and ambush Ian for Sirus.
  16. Seek Out Gorak in Palace - this quest is given by Darius in West Callaheim. Gorak is on the second floor of the palace in East Callaheim.  This is part of the main quest and must be completed.
  17. I Will Join You (3) - Darius will give you advice to join a guild and you can choose from the Knights of Aralon, the Order of Magic and the Guardians of Aralon.  You can choose to join one, two, three or none of the guilds.  I like playing all the side quests so I join all the guilds.  In each case, you must go upstairs in the headquarters to find the leader of the guild to inquire about joining.
  18. The Plan - this is the main quest of the game and you must complete it to finish the game.  There are several quests within this title.
  19. Given by Gorak in the East Callaheim Palace. Speak with Queen Elenroh and learn about her death.
  20. Given by Gorak in East Callaheim Palace. Talk to Darius to tell him what we have learned about Queen Elenroh's death.
  21. Given by Darius in West Callaheim. Do some research in the East Callaheim library to determine how to break Merificus' hold over King Owyn.
  22. Given by Darius in West Callaheim. Speak with Vierne in Karn located in the first outland, enter the Temple of Azra and obtain the Scepter of Hammara.
  23. Given by Darius in West Callaheim. Use the Scepter of Hammara to show Merificus in his true form and break the spell over King Owyn.
  24. Given by Darius in West Callaheim. Rescue Gorak from Valemar Keep Dungeons.
  25. Given by Darius in West Callaheim. Travel to Shadowspire and defeat Merificus.
  26. Glittering Sapphires - given by Finneus Goldring in East Callaheim Bank.  Note that if you take this challenge, you must complete it before finishing the tasks assigned by the Knights of Aralon.  If you do those tasks before you finish Glittering Sapphires and the Necklace of Amethyst quests, Finneus will become an enemy and you will not be able to complete his challenges.
  27. Necklace of Amethyst - given by Finneus Goldring after you have completed the "Glittering Sapphires" quest.  As with the Sapphires quest, you must finish this quest before completing the quests assigned by the Knights of Aralon or you will turn Finneus into an enemy and you will not be able to complete the quest.
  28. A Deal Gone Sour - given by Luther Argale on the south side of West Callaheim.  I never complete this quest because it asks you to kill Lord Telmon, which is a bad idea at first.  You must take this challenge, however, to receive the A Reversal of Fortune quest from Lord Telmon.
  29. A Reversal of Fortune - given by Lord Telmon in his West Callaheim home.  There will not be an exclamation point over his head when you enter his home but you will be able to receive the quest depending on the answers you give to Lord Telmon once you start talking to him.  Also, you cannot get this quest unless you first accept the "A Deal Gone Sour" quest from Luther Argale.  Once I complete the Fortune quest and collect the gold and points from Lord Telmon, I kill him.  He is a friendly target so killing him will not affect your legal status, his level is fairly high so killing him will help you level up and he usually has a decent amount of gold and a good weapon or armor.
  30. Guild Quests - you will receive a key to the guild chests for all of the guilds you join, but the the only guild with any loot in it is the Guardians of Aralon chest!  Each guild will give you quests to complete in order to move up the ranks of the guild and rid the Kingdoms of problems.  These challenges will help you level up steadily and acquire gold, weapons, armor, potions and other loot that can be invaluable as you go on to later challenges in the main quest.  I've listed the guild quests here in ascending level order (i.e. lowest to highest levels of enemies) and the smoothest way to complete them.
  31. Corruption in Callaheim - given by Eckar in the Knights of Aralon.  Note that you cannot complete this quest without looking at the message you retrieve from Nevin.
  32. Bear Hunting - given by Yiggdrin in the Guardians of Callaheim.  Note that there is the opportunity to make some extra gold here.  There are at least six bears with superb pelts once you kill them.  These pelts are worth 160 gold each.  I can usually make around 1000 extra gold by killing extra bears.  Moreover, bear blood is worth 25 gold and I can usually make about 500 extra gold from the blood.
  33. Missing Ingredients - given by Dersia in the Order of Magic.  This quest requires you to obtain giant rat blood.  The blood is worth 20 gold per rat killed and there are many more rats than the five you will need to complete this quest.  I usually come away with 300-500 extra gold from the rats I kill.
  34. A Meeting Disrupted - given by Eckar in the Knights of Aralon.  You cannot get this quest until you have completed "Corruption in Callaheim."
  35. Into the Mansion - given by Eckar in the Knights of Aralon.  You cannot receive this quest until you have completed the "A Meeting Disrupted" challenge. This quest is related to the "A Deal Gone Sour" and "A Reversal of Fortune" challenges given by Luther Argale and Lord Telmon respectively.  Luther has the key to the mansion that you must obtain before you can enter to complete the Mansion quest.  He will give it to you if you complete the "A Deal Gone Sour," you can use the pickpocket skill if you are playing as a rogue or you can simply kill Luther.  If you kill Luther, the Mansion key will be included as part of the loot on him.
  36. A Deadly Web - given by Dersia in the Order of Magic.  You cannot get this quest until you complete the "Missing Ingredients" challenge first.  There is the opportunity to make considerable gold in this quest by killing extra spiders and collecting their silk and venom.  I usually come away with 2000-3000 in extra gold from the spiders.
  37. Dark Gnome Raiders - given by Yiggdrin in the Guardians of Aralon.  You cannot obtain this quest until you have completed "Bear Hunting."  There are two places to kill gnomes - a dark gnome cave located in the Northern Kingdom on a hill to the left of Cold Sands Keep.  These locations are in addition to the gnomes that are standing around Windspray Lake.  You will be able to complete most of the kills required for the quest in the dark gnome cave but there is some excellent loot and the ability to level up with the second gnome location - the Dark Gnome Burrows.
  38. Sisters of the Night - given by Dersia in the Order of Magic.  You can complete this task before you receive it from Dersia if you so choose.  I complete this quest when I am completing the "Missing Ingredients" and "Dark Gnome Raiders" quests because it is easier to complete all of the quests in the Northern Kingdom at once rather than having to go back out into the wilderness another time, just to complete this one quest.
  39. Kill Vanael the Slicer - given by Eckar in the Knights of Aralon.  This is the only guild quest that takes place outside of the Northern Kingdom, in the first outland.
  40. The Border Wars - given by Narvi Kell in the Knights of Aralon.  This quest doesn't ask you to do anything other than speak to Captain Fargus in Cold Sand Hold.
  41. Speak with Warrek - given by Arad Quickdraw in the Guardians of Aralon and worth 2,000 exp.  Like the Border Wars quest above, this quest only asks you to seek out Warrek and speak with him.  Warrek resides in Redrock Bay in the Western Kingdom.
  42. The Orc War - given by Captain Fargus in Cold Sands Keep and worth 25,000 exp.  I do not complete this quest until I have completed all of the guild quests, the quest given by Warrek in the Western Kingdom and the "Rescue Gorak" quest given by Darius in West Callaheim.  The orcs you will be fighting in this quest are at least level 31 and as high as 37 (Uthu).  When you first travel into the first outland, the enemies you will fight (e.g. Desert Fangs, Smugglers, Skeletons) are only level 19-24 (Ancient Lich in the Temple of Azra is the highest level).  By completing the quest from Warrek (Minotaur King - levels 24-27), fighting the Rock Giants (levels 27-29) and the Corrupt Knights, Priestesses and Lord Valemar (levels 29-32) you will have progressed more steadily and the leveling up will be smoother.  You will also have more attributes and loot to protect you.
  43. Uthu's Fortress - given by Captain Fargus in Cold Sands Keep and worth 25,000 exp.  You cannot receive this quest until you complete "The Orc War" challenge.  I complete this challenge and the Orc War challenge together.  This way, you only have to make one trip into the desert, saving time.  Additionally, you don't have to worry about accidentally killing one of Captain Fargus' men and becoming an outlaw on this quest since you will be in the fortress alone.  If you do become an outlaw, you cannot complete this quest and it will cost you in terms of leveling up.
  44. A Soothing Balm - there is only one quest given in the first (sand) Outland and it is "A Soothing Balm" given by Sunclaw.  If you want the dragon to take you to Drake Island to retrieve the key to the Temple of Azra, you must complete this quest.  There are several things you must do to complete this quest.  Sunclaw's Tooth - on the beach south of Karn, there is a dead Drake carcass.  One of Sunclaw's teeth is broken in the carcass and you must take the tooth.  You may learn about the tooth from Katami in Karn too.  Speak with Vierne - after you find the tooth, you must speak with Vierne in Karn.  Note - at this first meeting, she will not give you the soothing balm recipe.  She simply tells you to seek out Sunclaw.  Pick Yuma Plants - Yuma plans are necessary for the soothing balm as well as quality health and restoration potions.  There are three yuma plants in the desert around Karn.  The first is behind the shop and Vierne's hut a few yards into the desert.  The second is next to two cacti a few yards behind Katami's hut in Karn.  The third plant is several yards behind and in between the first two plants.  Each time you enter a hut or speak with Sunclaw, you will be able to collect more yuma plants.  The restoration and health potions only require one plant each and it is worth picking as many plants as possible since the potions work well.  Speak to Sunclaw - if you don't know about the tooth, he will not give you the soothing balm quest.  The quest is worth 1,000 gold and 4,000 exp.  Speak to Vierne/Make Balm - once you have received the quest from Sunclaw, return to Vierne and she will give you the recipe for the soothing balm.  You need a superb health potion, which you can either get in Cold Sands Hold or in Karn at the shop next to Vierne's hut, and three yuma plants.  Mix these together and you will create the balm.  Take them back to Sunclaw and she will take you to Drake Island.
  45. The Minotaur King - given by Warrek in his Western Kingdom house and worth 1,500 gold and 50,000 exp.  Note that you cannot receive this quest without first completing the Speak with Warrek quest first.
  46. A Brash Brother - given by Koln in his house in Redrock Bay, it gives you the choice of three great weapons as a reward - Sword of Wounding, Staff of the Great Tree and Axe of Wounding - plus 50,000 exp.  This particular quest is one of the most difficult in the game to complete and I do not complete it until after I have defeated the Ice Elemental Queen, the Fire Elemental Kings (yes, there are three kings), Sheba and retrieved Icefang's egg from the dragon Ashmore.  The crested axe you are searching for is in the swamplands in the Northern Kingdom. The entrance to the swamplands is in the valley where the giant spiders are located.
  47. Icefang's Oath - given by Gorak in the Valemar Keep Dungeons it is worth 40,000 exp. and 2,000 gold.  You must travel to the second outland (with snow and hot springs) to speak with the dragon Icefang.
  48. Giants' Den - there is no quest associated with the rock giants in the Western Kingdom that I am aware of, but it is worth fighting them and going through the Giants' Den.  The giants have forged and crafted weapons and armor so you can pick up great gear from them.  It is also easy to find the Den.  From Redrock Bay, take the path toward Valemar Keep.  Before the right turn onto the path leading up to the Keep, go straight into the grass.  You will find giants around the corner to the left.  Keep traveling on the grass to the left until you encounter the Giants' Den.
  49. Rescue Gorak - although you receive this quest from Darius in West Callaheim, you must complete it in Valemar Keep, located in the Western Kingdom.  There are Corrupt Priestesses you must fight that require some skill to defeat (levels 29-31) and lots of chests and loot to recover - nine different chests.
  50. A Stolen Egg - once you have received Icefang's Oath, travel to the second outland to Icefang's Lair.  Once you complete the Oath quest, she will give you the Egg challenge, 50,000 exp.
  51. Journey to Shadowspire - this is part of the main quest and must be completed.  Players will receive it from Darius after rescuing Gorak from the Valemar Keep Dungeons.  There is more than one way to get to the entrance of Shadowspire but the straightforward path is to complete the quest from Icefang, A Stolen Egg.
  52. A Parting Gift - this is the last quest in the game, given by Darius in the Palace after players have killed Merificus in Shadowspire.  It asks only that players return to his or her home in Timber's Bend and speak to Captain Lordel's spirit at the tomb behind his or her house.

CLIII. Runes - you will receive runes fairly often as part of rewards or in chests throughout the game.  An important fact to note - only one rune can be attached to armor or weapon at a time.  For example, if you replace a greater health rune (+200 health) with an etched health rune (+50 health), you will lose the much better rune for a tiny one.  Be careful when you apply runes to armor and weapons to make sure they benefit you.

CXCII. Quests You Must Complete to Finish the Game -

CXCIII. Speak with Sufok - this is the first quest you receive.  It comes from Sir Roderick in your house in Timbers Bend and is worth 100 exp.

CXCIV. Find Darius - given by Sufok in Taryn Ridge.  This is where you will receive the grey stallion deed.

CXCV. Seek Out Gorak in the Palace - given by Darius in his West Callaheim home.

CXCVI. The Plan - all of the tasks below are part of the plan and the main quest in the game.

CXCVII. Speak with Queen Elenroh/Update Darius - given by Gorak on the second floor of the East Callaheim Palace.  Once you have spoken with the queen, Gorak will instruct you to tell Darius.

CXCVIII. Research - Darius will have you research what could break Merificus' spell and instruct you to search the East Callaheim Library.  This is where you will find the Temple of Azra and the Scepter of Hammara.

CXCIX. Retrieve the Scepter of Hammara - Darius will tell you to seek out Vierne in Karn but you don't strictly have to do this part of the quest.  You simply have to find a way into the Temple of Azra and that can be done in one of two ways.

CC. Speak with Vierne/Complete Sunclaw's Quest - you may seek out Vierne in Karn and complete Sunclaw's quest.  Then Sunclaw will take you to Drake Island where she has hidden the key to the Temple and transport you to the door of the Temple.

CCI. Get to Drake Island on Your Own - you can also swim out directly to Drake Island where Sunclaw placed the emerald that acts as the key to the Temple of Azra.  once you retrieve the key, climb to the Temple entrance yourself and enter.

CCII. Enter Temple of Azra and Obtain Scepter of Hammara - for a detailed description through the Temple, see above.

CCIII. Chests - when you enter the Temple, you want to have as little "stuff" in your inventory as possible.  At a minimum, you must encounter six chests in order to pass through all of the gates and levels.  Not including any of the enemies you will face, however, there are a total of twelve chests in the Temple from which you can take loot.

CCIV. Use the Scepter on Merificus - Merificus is located in the throne room where King Owyn  rules in the East Callaheim Palace.

CCV. Rescue Gorak - Darius will give you this quest after you have used the Scepter on Merificus.  Gorak is held prisoner in the Valemar Keep Dungeon, cell 1 in the Western Kingdom.  It may seem like you don't actually have to speak with Gorak because at this point, all you have to do is go to Shadowspire and fight Merificus.  However, Darius will not give you the Journey to Shadowspire quest until you have freed Gorak so in fact, you do have to complete this quest.

CCVI. Journey to Shadowspire - there are several quests that can take place between rescuing Gorak and entering Shadowspire.  However, you don't have to complete them because you can just go straight to Shadowspire from here.  In order to reach it, you must reach the Shadowspire Mines at the northeast corner of the Second Outland.  Using Helga's Ring or a Greenfin Stew, you can levitate over to the entrance for Shadowspire.

CCVII. Things You Really Want/Need to Obtain - these are a few things that I have found indispensable when playing the game.

CCVIII. Safety Ring - don't ever get rid of the safety ring.  It allows you to get out of sticky situations and is the fastest and easiest way back to Callaheim.  As far as I know, this ring or one of the instant transport sheets you can buy are the only way you can get out of Sheba's Lair.  It will appear in your inventory sometime when you are in the Southern Kingdom.  It always comes to me before I leave Timbers Bend.

CCIX. Helga's Ring - you must kill Ug, a cave troll in a cave on the land next to Lake Craythorn in the Southern Kingdom, to obtain this ring.  This ring is enormously helpful and while there is a quest to obtain it for Og, Ug's brother, I never complete this quest.  If you give the ring back to Og, you can never get the ring back, even if you kill him.  Helga's ring will allow you to levitate over areas and get more quickly through buildings like the Temple of Azra, Kargath's Lair, Uthu's Fortress, Lairs of the Spider Queen and Ice Elemental Queen and the Cavern of the Fire Elemental King.  As I mentioned above, this is one of only two ways to reach Sheba's Lair.
