Background Story
That which is done cannot be undone, but it can be avenged.
Three hundred years ago, the great Emperor Thalos ruled an empire that stretched from the Eastern Sea to the frozen wastelands of the north. It was said that he drew on his magic to extend his lifespan, so that he ruled beyond the years of any normal man. Finally, when he sensed mortality drawing near, he sought to become immortal and challenge the gods themselves. He journeyed into the frozen north, seeking the legendary Well of Life.
Drawing on the Well's magic, he cast a spell so mighty that the world shuddered on its foundations. The face of the Earth shattered, and the seas rose and fell. Waves as tall as mountains reshaped the landscape. The world was shattered and re-made, and Thalos vanished into the mists of Legend.
In the three centuries since that dark day, pockets of survivors have struggled to rebuild. From the ashes of that dark time arose the Kingdom of Aralon, forged of a pact between the elves, trolls and humans.
Now a shadow has fallen over the land, and all the promise of a peaceful Aralon hangs on the delicate thread of Fate. A hero must answer the call to restore the hope of the future, and re-discover the legacy of the past.

Game Story
The story begins with Sir Roderick, a friend of your father and a true ally of Aralon. Royal Guards, loyal to the evil demon Merificus, find him and try to take him away to prison because of his defiance. Roderick escapes but is badly injured but nevertheless makes his way to you in Timber's Bend, a small village in the southern kingdom. After informing you of who he and your father really are, Roderick tells you to seek out a man named Sufok in Taryn Ridge. As Roderick dies of his injuries, you take the goods and gold from him and his pack.
In Taryn Ridge, players must seek out Sufok, who can tell them more about the desparate situation in Aralon. Sufok advises players to find Darius, another friend of the player's father (the father's name is Captain Lordel) and who lives in West callaheim. After helping rid the village and countryside of some problems, players head to callaheim in search of Darius.
Once Darius has been located, he informs players to join local guilds to help build his or her skills. Most importantly, he tells them to seek out Gorak, a troll who is on their side who still is a guard. Gorak instructs you to speak with the ghost of Queen Elenroh to find out if there is anything suspicious about her death.
When players speak with her, they will learn that Merificus, King Owyn's closest advisor, is a demon of another world but who is disguised as a human. Merificus controls the King's mind and the player must find a way to break his hold over the King. After researching the issue, players will find that the answer is the Scepter of Hammara. While this is going on, players can be honing their skills and helping rid the kingdom of other problems by joining guilds and doing quests on their behalf.
Darius instructs players to go to the outland where the Temple of Azra is located. From there, players should enter the Temple and retrieve the Scepter of Hammara. Then the Scepter can be used on Merificus, freeing King Owyn from Merificus' control and showing Merificus in his true form. Merificus issues a challenge to players, stating that if they want to fight or get rid of him, he will be in Shadowspire.
Shadowspire is a mountain that is nearly impossible to reach located near the northernmost point of the outlands of the Aralon kingdom. After reaching the mountain, players must fight and kill Merificus. Once this has been completed, the great danger of the age at this time has been eliminated and the game is over.
