In order to get through the hatch you need to complete the circular puzzle. The outer ring is linked to one of the inner rings so it makes most sense to start in the middle (where the image is fixed) and work out, matching each ring with the one inside it. One you have done the outer ring you'll have to go back and do the 3rd one again as it will have moved.
Once the puzzle is complete, you can open the hatch by turning the wheel anti-clockwise and continuing to the next chapter of the story.
