Pick the gloves from your inventory. You have to act quickly here before getting burned. Each time a pipe bursts and a fire starts, you need to use the gloves to tap the red wheel and put it out. Keep doing this for about 30 or so fires and you will be able to proceed - you must be quick or else the fire will overcome you.
