Every Borderlands game has offered the ability to pick from one of four playable characters at the beginning of the game, with The Pre-Sequel offering the same. Each character plays very differently, with them all having three different skill trees. Instead of earning the first Skill Point at level 5, it is rewarded at level 3 in the game, making it possible to get two capstones (the last skill in each tree) without any level cap increases.
