Kutaro loses his head at the beginning of the game and must find new heads in order to progress through the game. Kutaro can only carry three normal heads at a time, with new ones picked up discarding the ones in your inventory. He can also lose a head by getting hit by enemies and if he loses all three heads, then he will lose a life.
Kutaro also has access to four special heads, the Moon Heroes' Heads, which grant him special abilities that must be used to defeat the bosses, as well as progress through the varying stages.
