The Playstation Eye is a digital camera device that is similar to a webcam. It is the successor to the Playstation 2's EyeToy, and is capable of capturing video/images with technology known as computer vision and gesture recognition. It can also capture sound using the Eye's built-in microphone array. It was first released through a bundle with The Eye of Judgment in October of 2007 in all regions.
The PS Eye has four times the resolution and two times the framerate of the EyeToy, as well as two times the sensitivity. The camera has a two-setting adjustable zoom lens, which can be set to a 56 degree field of view or a 75 degree field of view. The built-in microphone can be used for speech recognition and audio chat without the use of a headset in a noisy environment.
