The main user interface for the PS3 is called the XrossMediaBar, or XMB for short. It features icons that are spread horizontally across the screen, with the PS3 having ten different categories. With firmware update 2.41, you could access the XMB while playing a game. The ten different categories are as follows:
- Users
- Settings
- Photo
- Music
- Video
- TV/Video Services
- Game
- Network
- Playstation Network
- Friends
Users can download custom themes, which changes the background and sometimes icons of the XMB. Dynamic themes were introduced later on, which are animated themes. Themes can be downloaded via the PS3's internet browser, as well as official ones from the Playstation Store.
