The Playstation 2 had limited network capabilities, which required a Network Adapter, and it was only available for select games. In March of 2006, Sony announced the online network for the PS3, which would always be connected, free and include multiplayer support. To access these features, users must register an account, whichis free.
Users can register for a new account via a Playstation 3, PSP, Vita or on a PC. They have access to all features who also sign up for a Playstation Network account, including free online multiplayer and all apps not offered by Playstation Plus.
