Public Works Projects are one of two major duties for the player as the mayor. They allow the player to customize their town by adding/upgrading buildings, as well as having landmarks and other structures built around town or Main Street.
All projects will require a certain amount of Bell in order to make, as well as a certain condition in order to unlock them. There can only be one project in progress at a time, with a celebration occurring with villagers once it is completed. Isabelle will also announce the completion of the project.
