The Mage is a Basic Vocation in Dragon's Dogma. It is a class that is the master of elemental magicks, as well as having access to healing magicks. This allows them to sit back and pelt enemies with spells, taking a break to heal fellow party members should they get injured.

Mages are a basic damage dealer, with access to many powerful spells in their repertoire. They also have healing magicks at their disposal, making it so they can heal any wounded party members, as well as damage the undead. Mages can enchant your party's weapons, making it so they can hit their weak points. Their one skill, Levitate, is very helpful in maneuvering around the battlefield, as well as when exploring.
While they are very powerful, Mages are very weak in physical defense, as well as having a lack of HP and stamina. This makes it very important to keep a distance away from enemies, as a few melee hits can kill them. Also, Mages are only powerful as long as they can cast spells, so if they are Silenced, they are pretty much useless. This is even more troublesome with Golems, as they are immune to magick. One more downside to being a Mage is the lack of an evade or block.
