The PlayStation Move is a motion sensing controller for the PlayStation 3 that will also be utilised for the PlayStation 4, as demonstrated by Media Molecule during the 'See the Future' presentation. It's currently unclear if the Move controller will be re-designed.
It is a controller that is shaped like a wand with an orb on the top. It was first released worldwide in September of 2010.
The Move controller uses Bluetooth 2.0 wireless radio communication and has an internal lithium-ion battery. There is a mini-B port on the controller, which can be connected to a USB cable that connects to the PlayStation 3 for use with charging.
Up to four Move controllers can be used at once, either with just 4 Move controllers or with 2 Move controllers in conjunction with 2 Navigation controllers.
The orb on top of the Move is the main tracking mechanism for the device, and is used in conjunction with the Playstation Eye.
There's a pair of inertial sensors inside the Move controller, as well as a 3-axis linear accelerometer and a 3-axis angular rate sensor. These are used to track rotation of the controller. There's also an internal magnetometer that calibrates the Move's orientation against the Earth's magnetic field.
As far as buttons go, the Move controller features a few buttons not present on regular PlayStation controllers. There's a Move button on the front, as well as small buttons mimicking the face buttons on the DualShock 3/Sixaxis. There's a Home button and Start/Select buttons on the left and right side of the controller. On the underside of the Move is a trigger (T).
