The Playstation 4 will continue to use the Playstation Network model that was created during the lifespan of the PlayStation 3. Users will still have to create a ID, and previous users can import their same ID that they had on the Playstation 3, including their Trophies and Friends.
Users will be able to start playing games once an initial download of a game is completed, then as they're playing the rest of the full game will continue downloading.
Playstation Plus
Playstation Plus will continue its services on the PS4, where it will be required for online multiplayer. Note that this doesn't apply to free-to-play games, such as DC Universe Online and Blacklight: Retribution, where players will be able to play without a subscription.
Another plus for subscribing to Playstation Plus is that other people can play on a primary system with the service, even without logging into the account. This includes the ability to play online multiplayer and enjoy any games exclusive to PS+ (like from the Instant Collection).
Other features for Playstation Plus include:
- Instant Game Collection - Selected PS4 titles will be available for free each month for PS+ users. First month titles include Contrast and RESOGUN.
- Discounts - There will be discounts available on titles, including extra ones that are already discounted for normal users.
- Game Save Cloud Storage - Users can upload their game saves to keep them safe, as well as access them from other systems. Up to 1GB is allocated for game saves.
- Automatic Patch Downloads - Users will be able to set it to where the system automatically downloads patches for games when it's in standby mode.
