On September 14, 2006 Nintendo announced release information for most regions, as well as prices and projected unit-distribution figures. At a policy briefing in June 2006 Nintendo revealed plans to release 6 million console units (4 million of which were expected to ship by the end of 2006) and 17 million software units during the fiscal year ending March 31, 2007. The majority of the shipments were allotted to the Americas, and it was announced that 33 titles would be available at its launch.
The Wii was launched in the United States on November 19, 2006 for $249.99, and was later launched in the United Kingdom on December 8, 2006 for £179. The United Kingdom experienced a widespread shortage of Wii units and was unable to fulfill all pre-orders at its release.
On November 14, 2006, it was confirmed that 21 titles would be available on launch day in North America, with another 12 games being released in the so-called 'launch window'. Wii Sports was included with the console bundle in all regions excluding Japan and South Korea. Despite the price point of US$60 quoted for many seventh generation games in the USA, Wii titles cost at most US$50 at major US retail stores.
The following table lists all of the launch titles and the regions in which they were available:
