Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection was the original name (intendo's online offerings have since been consolidated under the Nintendo Network banner) for the Nintendo Wii's online service.
It provided free online play in compatible Nintendo DS and Wii games, and included a number of other features which will be detailed in the pages below.
On January 26, 2012, Nintendo announced in an investors meeting that the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service would be succeeded by and absorbed into the Nintendo Network; a new unified online system that will fully support the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, as well as legacy support for both Wii and Nintendo DS.
The following pages contain details of Nintendo's online service for the Wii.
