Squad Assault is one of the game modes that is part of the Squads mode in Ghosts. It pits the player and five of the members of their squad, either controlled by the A.I. or other players, against six members (controlled by the A.I.) of a squad created by someone else.
The thing about this mode is that you can use matchmaking to find a squad to play against, or you can use the squad of an offline friend. Note that the map and mode that is played on is picked by the player you are fighting against, so there is no choice for the player issuing the challenge.
