The Pole Arm is a good weapon for crowd control, capable of hitting multiple enemies in a single it. It can keep your enemies at bay as you fight but the weapon is slower than Raiden's normal High Frequency Blade. It won't wory very well against bosses or other strong opponents.
The Pole Arms strength upgrades help it become more viable against tougher enemies. Further, there are several special moves that can be purchased from the shop. This makes it a much more viable weapon.
