Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance - R-03 Mile High

City Streets

This mission will start you right in the middle of a fight with a group of Cyborg cops. These are no different than the regular cyborgs you are used to but the lead Cyborg has [Left Hand 3.1]. There will be about six in all and as you start killing them, an armored cyborg will appear. You should be able to clear out the weaker Cyborgs making the armored cyborg pretty easy to deal with. After he's dead, you'll have two more cyborgs to deal with by the barrier wall.

The EM barrier will disolve and you'll be able to progress towards the intersection ahead and as you do, another group of about six cyborgs will attack you. This will let you replenish yourself if you didn't have a chance to earlier. Up ahead, you'll be attacked by two GRAD enemies. These are similar to the boss fight from the previous level but they aren't as tough. Try to get in and start slashing but be prepared to parry. Watch for the red laser from the other GRAD that would indicate that it's about to fire and start running if you see it.

Once you've destroyed the two GRADS, a couple of Cyborgs will attacks from one side. One of these Cyborgs will have [Left Hand 3.2]. Kill them but remember the direction they came from because if you run behind that barrier, you'll also find [VR Mission 3.1]. Before entering the building, find the large set of stairs covered by the giant glass canopy. If you jump onto that canopy and follow it to where it connects to the building, you'll find [Data 3.1].

Walk up the stairs to the upper level and on the patio you'll find an [Item Box]. Inside the building, go up the small set of stairs and turn left. You'll see [VR Mission 3.2] though you may have to wait for your conversation with Boris to end first. Go to the end of the hall and turn left into the next room by using the panel.

In the office, you'll be attacked by two Gekkos and a group of Dwarf Gekkos. Because of the confined space, you don't have a lot of room to really move around so instead get into the thick of it. You'll have to be extra vigilant with you parry moves here but if you can nail them, you'll cut right through these two. With them out of the way, clean up any Dwarf Gekkos and move on. Grab the [3D Photo Frame] off of the filing cabinet before leaving.

You'll enter a hallway with a T-intersection. Go left and cut open the cardboard box to find [Man in Box 3 of 5]. Now proceed down the other path. Notice that at the end is a Cyborg who should have [Left Hand 3.3]. As you make your way to him, several cyborgs will crash through the windows. Try to lure them around the corner if you can because the original Cyborgs at the end of the hall will be packing RPGs. Draw the shielded enemies back and parry through their shields to dispose of them. After that, round the corner and you should be able to get the other cyborgs pretty clumped up. Cut through them before getting on the elevator.

Rooftops

Once on the rooftop, look forward and run out to the crane. There is a barrel that you can grab which functions very much like the cardboard box. Climb up the crane and get to the end. When you are there, look at the enemies below with AR Vision - one of the flying enemies has [Left Hand 3.4]. From up here, you can Ninja Run to the next building and perform a Zandatsu to get things going. If you are lucky, you may be able to perform more than one.

Once the fight starts in earnest, try and dislodge the Cyborgs from the flying contraptions before continuing. Try to identify the enemy with the Left Hand and left him for last before diving into the fight. Be careful because there's about four Cyborgs and one armored Cyborg here.

After defeating the cyborgs, get to the middle level of the rooftops and you'll see some giant red pipes passing between two parts of the roof. If you climb those pipes and then turn around, you'll see [VR Mission 3.3] just on the other side. Climb up to the highest point of the building and find the red platform that sticks out. Ninja Run off of that to get to the next area.

On the next building, climb to the top and you'll fight a Heavy Cyborg. He'll be accompanied by a couple of flying Cyborgs who you may want to disable first before focusing on the big guy. The Heavy Cyborg can take quite a beating but most of his attacks are still blockable. When you've dealt some damage, you'll be able to cut off one of his arms and this will get rid of his hammer. He won't be as dangerous at this point but he can definitely still deal some damage with his charging attack. Once you've got him this damaged, you want to try and finish him quickly because he will otherwise vanish.

After you've gotten rid of the flying cyborgs and damaged this first Heavy Cyborg, another Heavy Cyborg will appear. Keep moving and be aggressive with your attacks before heading up the stairs nearby. On top of the building will be an Armored Cyborg and a Hammerhead chopper. I found it easier to go after the Hammerhead first since it is an aerial enemy. Performing aerial combos will keep you from getting hit by the cyborg below and allow you to take out the ranged enemy first.

Cross to the next building and you'll see a large section of building below you to the right. There will be 3-4 Cyborgs and a couple of flying Cyborgs. There's all sorts of goodies here so get ready. Turn right and one of the Flying Cyborgs will start heading your way. He will fly over your head but don't let him do that. You want to jump and hit him to kill him. He will drop [Data 3.2] for you. Ahead and below you will see that some of the Cyborgs have [Hostage 3 of 4] and one of those Cyborgs has [Left Hand 3.5].

Drop down and start making your way along the left side of the building so you don't get seen. To save the hostage, you'll need an EMP Grenade. Toss it towards the guards and you'll stun them. Run over, take the Left Hand and then finish the rest of the guards to save the Hostage. Talk to him to make sure it counts. If that isn't an option, remember to get the flying enemies first to make things easier.

At the end of the roof, enter the building with the fence to the left and chop off the wires to make the elevator drop.

The Tunnels

You'll drop into some really dark tunnels. It will be very hard to see unless you keep AR activated. The problem here is that you can't swing your sword and keep AR activate at the same time. This means it's very important to avoid open conflict because you won't be able to fight nearly as effectively.

In this first room, check for the [Item Box] to the right before cutting through the door nearby. This will lead you down to the train tracks proper. Again, to the right you'll see another [Item Box]. Grab this and turn around.

You'll see that there are Mastiffs scattered throughout the area. Face them and then start traveling along the left half of the tracks. Make your way up to near the first Mastiff. You'll find a half broken wall that is pretty close to the end of his patrol route and if you stay behind it, you can wait for him to come and then turn. Spring into action and take him out quickly. Stick to the left wall and follow it forward and up ahead will be the next Mastiff. You can walk right behind him and simply take him out.

Move up ahead and you'll see another Mastiff on your left. He'll move towards you, then jump onto the wall, then jump down and then walk towards you again. You want to try to sneak across the broken walls so that when he jumps back down, you'll be roughly behind him. This will give you a brief moment to sneak up and kill him after he lands and starts walking again. You'll also find [Data 3.3] in the pile of rubble he keeps walking towards at the end of the train. Grab it before climbing over the large train.

Near/On top of the train, watch out for some Dwarf Gekkos. Kill them as you cross (use your radar to figure out where they'll ambush you. Drop off the back of the train and then hug the dividing wall to the left. In the rubble blocking this part of the tunnel will be [VR Mission 3.4]. There is another Mastiff on the right train track but you're already pretty well position to take him out once he turns away from you. At the end of the right track will be [Humanoid Dwarf Gekko 2 of 5]. There's no real need to fight it but it does have an instant attack that stuns you so be careful if you do.

On the upper level from where you are, you'll see two clusters of Dwarf Gekkos on the ceiling and a Mastiff. The Mastiff makes a loop patrol so wait for him to walk towards you and then turn left before coming up behind him. You'll want to try to make a straight line for him though so that you avoid the Dwarf Gekko clusters that will alert him. Search the area for items before leaving through the nearby door.

Abandoned Area

This hallway will lead you into a building at ground level. Go through the door on the far side of the room and then turn left. Hug the left wall to find [VR Mission 3.5]. Grab that and exit. Turn right and move along the street until you are attacked by the three Cyborgs and the GRAD. Lead the Cyborgs under the overpass so that the GRAD above can't attack you while you fight. One of these cyborgs will have [Left Hand 3.6] - he was originally the one furthest right. Kill them and take the hand before cutting down the supports for the overpass and fighting the GRAD.

Up ahead will be a group of four Cyborgs that you can avoid completely. Stick to the right side and go up the stairs. At the top will be one guard and he will have [Left Hand 3.7]. He's armored but since you got behind him, a Zandatsu will instantly kill him anyway and you can take his arm if you follow it up with Blade Mode. The rest of the enemies are below and one of them is a Heavy Cyborg. If you can sneak up on him and kill him first, try to do that. otherwise, you can get rid of at least one of the regular cyborgs with a Zandatsu and kill the other before the Heavy arrives.

With the area clear, look under the left set of stairs leading up to find a [Blade Box] with [Life+ 3 of 6]. Go through to the next area and you'll see a group of four cyborgs scattered around some large stairs. Go to the left before engaging the cyborgs and you'll find a small vending stall. Jump on top of that and turn to the nearest building. You'll see a small ledge that you can jump to and then from there is a small round ledge just above. On that small ledge is [Data 3.4].

Turn your attention back to the cyborgs. The closest of them will have [Left Hand 3.8] and if you do it correctly, you may even be able to get up the stairs next to him without being seen (immediately at least).

Start the fight with the Cyborgs but be careful of reinforcements. There may be some minor Cyborgs that show up but the big threat is the Fenrir which is a weaker version of Bladewolf. Try to get it to follow you to either top or bottom of the stairs as fighting on the stairs can be a little more difficult. Otherwise, treat him just like Bladewolf and you'll do just fine.

Get to the top of the stairs and make your way along the street to the plaza. After  listening to Sam for a little bit, you'll get into a fight with a group of Cyborgs. They aren't any more difficult than normal but you'll be able to hear their thoughts, something that is a little unusual.

Stunned

After the fight, you'll be a little shaken up and you'll have to stumble forward. Walk up to the street but wait for the guards to vacate the area directly ahead. Cross the street and walk towards the front of the building. Wait for the guards to come out and pass you so you can walk up the stairs behind them. When you get there, you'll get into a fight and stumble around trying to take them out. If you do too well, the game will stop you from being able to attack while they beat on you.

Monsoon

Monsoon is a tricky opponent just because he can move around quite a bit and can completely avoid some of your attacks. His normal phase sees him using a variety of attacks but most of them normal. He'll run around the area and attack from different angles. You can hit him at this point and counter his attacks when he's fighting. After dealing a certain amount of damage, he'll begin a certain sequence that starts with a techniques is to obscure everything in fog and then come at you from different angles. You'll only have a split second to react and figure out where he's going to hit you from next. When he appears, push in that direction and go for the parry. You'll almost always try to counter but never connect just because of the small window.

After this fog sequence, he'll get atop something and start throwing objects. If it's a bunch of individual objects, enter Blade Mode and start swinging away (I just used the Light and Heavy Attack buttons while moving the camera arround) and be sure to grab the various items and health dropped by the objects.. Sometimes, however, he'll pick up a large mass of different things squished together. He'll put these down in front of him and then send it at you before calling it back. This has to be avoided repeatedly. The best thing to do is to run circles near the back middle of the area and then just keep going in whatever direction you were going once it starts to move.

After he does something like this, he'll start glowing purple and start attacking you.  He'll throw his Sai at you from a distance but if you get in close he'll just perform normal attacks. You can't hit him with normal attacks so you'll have to get close and perform a counter attack. Counter an attack, hit him once or twice more and then you'll be set up for Blade Mode. Enter Blade Mode and you'll see a target appear at the top of his helmet. Hit that spot to end his relative invulnerability. With the sequence ended, he'll return to normal combat.

He'll begin his special attack routine when you put him below 70%, 50%, 40%, 20%, and 10%. After his 10% sequence, he'll pick up a large pointed monument and then throw it at you. Instead of cutting it, you want to

  • activate Ninja Run to run up it.
  • At the end of it, you'll need to cut through a large beam
  • finally you'll strike Monsoon by hitting Heavy Attack and Activate.
