The M1911 is a semi-automatic handgun that is the starting weapon for Alex Mason during the first single player campaign, Pyrrhic Victory. Afterwards, it has to be set in your loadout, as it's not a part of any recommended loadouts. It is a pretty basic weapon, as its damage is not too great and it has medium recoil.
The M1911 is the starting weapon on all Zombies maps and should be used in conjunction with the knife in the beginning rounds to build up points. You can't really rely on it too much after a few rounds, as players should buy one of the other guns to increase their chances of survival. When Pack-a-Punched, the M1911 becomes Mustang & Sally, which is a pair of pistols that fire explosive grenade rounds.
