Friend Safari is a location where you can catch Pokemon from special areas that are based on your 3DS friends. You can catch all kinds of Pokemon in these Safari areas, including some that are not even in the Kalos region (meaning they aren't in Pokemon X nor Y). Players do not even have to have played a Pokemon game for them to appear.
Each friend on your list will be randomly assigned a type based on their Friend Code, which cannot be changed once it has been assigned. All Pokemon encountered within these zones are level 30 and you can catch up two Pokemon, with it increasing to three if the player has beaten either game. It is located in Kiloude City and is available after beating the main game.
Safari Balls aren't needed to catch them, as the player can use any Pokeballs they have in their inventory. There is no time limit and players can even catch a Pokemon that's exclusive to the Y version if they're playing X. Note that if the friend is online at the time they catch a Pokemon, that particular one will have their Hidden Ability unlocked.
The following pages will give details on the non-Kalos Pokemon you can capture in Friend Safari Zones. Note it's not clear whether you evolve these Pokemon or not.
