You need to go to minecraft.net and download the new launcher, not the old one. Depending on your computing system, choose the corresponding launcher. For example, you have to choose between the .jar and .exe file. I hope this helps.

Did you perhaps press F1 by accident? It will remove the HUD and your arm/item. Some resource packs have problems rendering with shader mods too. Are you running any other mods alongside GSL Shaders? Resource packs?

what is the server name? and are there people online alot?

It uses a new launcher, so you must download from the Minecraft website.
