Barracks are the most important buildings in the game after the Ancients. They are responsible for spawning the lane creeps. The destruction of the opposing team's Barracks is typically the key goal throughout most of the game and is almost always a necessity in order to destroy their Ancient.
Each team has three sets of Barracks, and each set of Barracks consists of a Melee Barracks and a Ranged Barracks. These are each defended by a tier 3 tower at the entrance to the base which must be destroyed before they can be targetted, and both have 1,500 health. The Melee Barracks has slightly more armour (15 compared to 5 for the Ranged).
Both Barracks have backdoor protection and health regeneration (2.5 health points per second), but they do not have true sight.
The destruction of a Barracks not only provides a gold bounty (100-150 gold each for the last hit, as well as 75 gold to each allied player), like all of the buildings in the game, it also has a huge impact on the creeps that spawn in the lane. Your creeps on the given lane will be upgraded if you manage to destory an enemy Barracks and the enemy will receive less gold and experience from killing those creeps.
The following table summarises the impact the destruction of an enemy Barracks will have on your creeps that spawn in that lane:
| Barracks | Effect |
|---|---|
| Melee Barracks | When Destroyed:

| Ranged Barracks | When Destroyed:

If all of a team's Barracks fall then the opposing team will have Mega Creeps - extremely strong, upgraded versions of normal creeps that are difficult to push back from your base. At this stage in the game it is very difficult to make a comeback.
