Plans to continue the Hitman franchise were first announced in 2007, but it wasn't until 2009 that Eidos confirmed a new Hitman title was in development.
On April 20, 2011 Square Enix filed the trademark for the name Hitman: Absolution, leading to speculation that this would be the title of the fifth game in the series.
The first trailer - a teaser trailer - was released in May, 2011. It showed Agent 47 attaching a silencer to a pistol, and confirmed that the title of the game was indeed Hitman Absolution.
On October 9, 2011 a gameplay trailer was released, called 'Run for Your Life'.
On May 10, 2012 the official release date for Hitman Absolution was unveiled: November 20, 2012.
On May 30, 2012 an E3 2012 trailer was released. Called Attack of the Saints, it shows Agent 47 facing off against a team of assassins called The Saints. The trailer caused controversy due to its depiction of The Saints dressed as nuns in highly sexualised outfits, and re-ignited the debate about the sexist attitudes towards women in both video games and the gaming industry itself.
Contracts
On September 1, 2012 - A new gameplay mode call contracts was revealed at PAX Prime. The new game mode allows for a competitive style of play similar to horse. A Player can, as they play through the level, pick certain targets to kill and then post those targets online as a challenge to other players.
