Giovanni is the former leader of Team Rocket and former gym leader of Viridian City, before he disappeared after his group is defeated by Red. When the reformed Team Rocket takes over the Goldenrod Radio Tower they send out a message to him which he receives in his secret base in Tohjo Falls. When a Celebi event happens you and your childhood friend are sent back in time and battle him. After defeating him you learn that your rival Silver is his son and that Silver’s harsh personality was brought forth by being abandoned by Giovanni.
