Key Items are items that can only be used outside of the Pokemon battles, each have their on unique use and purpose. Good Rod is a example of key item, when you use it on a body of water you have a chance engaging a Pokemon in battle. Another type of key item is the Pal Pad where you register friend codes and keeping record of game play. Others have a one time use like the Tidal Bell which is used to call Lugia when your in the Whirl Islands.
