Evade is another cornerstone of DmC movement. This is actually an ability and different from simply moving out of the way. By hitting the proper button, you will roll in a given direction. If you hit this button while in the air, you'll make a short air dash in the direction you are pushing.
When using this ability, timing is everything. The most important feature of this evade is generally not the movement itself but rather the limited invincibility that comes with it. During most of the animation while dodging, you'll be immune to many attacks. Time it right and even if you don't actually get out of the way, you'll still avoid all damage.
There are two upgrades to this ability: Demon Evade and Angel Evade. If you hold down the respective buttons for these weapons and dodge at just the right time (just before being hit), you'll perform one of these Evades instead, provided you've purchased them. Angel Evade basically adds distance and time to your invincibility. This is basically just an enhanced dodge. Demon Evade, however, will give Dante a short damage boost. Time it perfectly and you'll be able to take out your enemies even more quickly.
