The Map Editor allows you to create your own map for use in multiplayer. When you first access the Map Editor, you have the options to create a new map, create a new empty map, generate a map, look at maps you created, or exit the editor. When you go into a map, you have plenty of options in which to create whatever you want.
It is important to note that with any map you create, you have to keep track of a few things. At the top of the screen are three things you should look at, which are Memory, Objects, and Performance. Memory and Objects are how much stuff you can place in a map. Performace indicates how well your map will play, with the more it moves to your left, the more slow and laggy the map will be.
TERRAIN TOOLS
These tools allow you to sculpt the terrain in any way you see fit. You can raise and lower the terrain to your liking, including Bumping, Flattening, Raising/Lowering, Smoothing, creating a Ramp, Eroding, and many more things with the terrain.
OBJECTS
With this option, you can add objects to your map, as well as edit the ones that are already placed. Game Modes will allow you to place objects related to the various game modes, such as objectives and spawn points. Gameplay allows you to place objects that affect the gameplay, such as explosives, wildlife, or NPCs. Thematics are basically the set pieces, such as buildings. The rest of the options are nothing but decorations that enhance the map, and there are hundreds of objects with which to experiment.
COLLECTION SYSTEM
The Collection System allows you to add vegetation and trees to your map. You basically pick what you want and paint it onto the map. You can change the type of vegetation of a given slot at any time, allowing you to experiment with different themes.
PAINT TEXTURE
The Paint Texture tool allows you to apply different textures to your terrain. Assign a texture to an empty slot, then paint it in your map. This will allow you to experiment with the theme of your map.
ENVIRONMENT SETTINGS
Use the Environment Settings tool to set the time of day, clouds, weather ambiance, as well as the level of water in your map. You can set it so the weather in your map is constant rain, or make the time of day as night.
MAP LIMITS
This tool allows you to set the boundaries of your map. Any player who goes outside of the boundaries will have a time limit to get back inside, and if he doesn't, then he will die.
ROAD
You can use this tool to apply some roads to your map. Control the points on the road to modify the path of the road. Assign a road texture to an empty slot and then paint the road path in your map.
SNAPSHOT
Use the Snapshot tool to take a representative picture of your map. This snapshot will appear in the map browser so players looking for a new map to download will see it. So make sure you take a great picture of your map so players want to play it.
VALIDATION
On the pause menu, you will see an option called Validation. This will allow you to see what exactly you need to place in your map for it to be valid for the different game modes in multiplayer.
