He says he is a hunter who has crossed time and space to find her. "Come with me", he says. "We will travel the timeline and find your sister". Lightning! Could she be alive? Could her beloved sister really be in that world of chaos and death, fighting to save a dying goddess. It does not take long for Serah to make her fateful decision. The day when Cocoon fell, the goddess Etro was watching the heroes fulfilling their focus and turning into crystal, she took pity and freed them. That action weakened the goddess and created a time distortion that changed history, Lightning was absorbed by that distortion to Valhalla, a realm beyond time.
Now, in Valhalla, the realm of the goddess where she keeps the Chaos contained, Lightning is a guardian of the goddess, fighting a man called Cauis Ballad who wants to destroy the timeline and kill the goddess to release the Chaos into the world.
Meanwhile, a young man enters Valhalla through a gate in the sky and is rescued by Lightning, who gives him the task to bring Serah, Lightning’s sister, to Valhalla.
For Serah, three years have passed and Lightning is nowhere to be found. They say that she never got out of the crystal pillar that holds Cocoon, but Serah has shattered memories of a different history, a history where Lightning was there with her, smiling and blessing her marriage.
One night, a giant meteor strikes out of nowhere, bringing chaos and monsters to the quiet town of New Bodhum, during the attack, a young man appears and saves Serah from a certain death.
That young man, Noel Kreiss, claims that Lightning has sent him to bring Serah back to her in Valhalla, a place beyond time and death. Serah believes him. So they start a journey through time to change this unjust and false history.
