It is not recommended that you fight straight on in Dishonored, although you can if you want. Corvo carries a weapon in his right hand and uses his powers with his left hand. When confronting enemies, you can swing your knife or attack them with other weapons, such as a gun. There is a counter system in place, where you time the block of an enemy's attack, it will stun them and leave them open to your attacks.
