Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Rampages

Overview

Rampages started out as Kill Frenzies in Grand Theft Auto 2, and then reintroduced as Rampages in Grand Theft Auto: III. They have carried on into this title. The Rampages are symbolised by the image to the left.

There are 35 Rampages in Vice City.

Each Rampage requires you to reach a target in 2 minutes. In general, you are killing gang members or destroying vehicles. You must do this with a set weapon, which you cannot switch out of.

Because you are likely to be attacked on many Rampages, you may want to complete the Paramedic Mission for the Infinite Sprint feature, the Firefighter Mission for the fireproof feature, The Vigilante Mission for the extra Armor hitpoints, the Pizza Delivery Missions for the extra Health hitpoints, and The Shooting Range side mission for the Fast Load feature. Saving after each Rampage is advisable if you are not confident on them. Full Health and Armor are advised, especially for the Rampages that prove more challenging.

Rewards

The first Rampage that you complete will earn you $50. Your second Rampage will earn you $100. After that, the reward for each Rampage completed will go up $50 until your thirty-fourth Rampage, which will earn you $1,700. Completion of the final Rampage will give you $1,000 as a bonus for completing all the Rampages, but that is it. A funny reward, but I doubt you'll be peeved by getting $750 less than expected after all the work you put in.

The Rampages do not have to be completed in any order, but I will begin from the East Island and work my way south, and then onto the West Island, and work my way south again. The Rampages will be separated by district.

East Island & Starfish Island

No. Objective Weapon District & Location Notes
1 Kill 30 Gang Members Rocket Launcher North Point Mall - At the west side of the second floor, outside Vinyl Countdown. Stand well back when using the RPG. Try and get to a platform where the gangsters cannot reach you. That way, them rushing you won't be a problem.
2 Drive-By 30 Gang Members Uzi Vice Point (northwest) - Behind the building at the northwest corner of the East Island, accessible by the ramp on its east side. Use a motorcycle, most preferably the PCJ 600 or the Freeway/Angel bikes. This will allow you to shoot forward, meaning that you can get a good bearing on your enemies and still focus on anything in front of you.
3 Kill 25 Gang Members Equalizer Pistol Vice Point (northeast) - Near the northeast corner of an orange-and-white building next door and south to 3321 Vice Point Rd. You want to head into the North Point Mall, as you will only have to contend with mall cops. If you are having trouble with the law on this one, heading into the Mall is the best thing to do. Otherwise, you can blast away with a powerful handgun.
4 Kill 35 Gang Members M4 Vice Point (north) - By the east entrance of the North Point Mall, behind the wall running outside the building. As with Rampage 3, you can head into the Mall to reduce the number of police officers you are fighting alongside the gangsters. You will have to deal with the recoil when in first-person aim, but PC gamers have an advantage. You will have to get used to it.
5 Kill 20 Gang Members Chainsaw Vice Point (southwest) - at the end of the jetty on the north side of the bridge heading from Vice Point to Leaf Links. Use of the Chainsaw has its pitfalls - you run slowly, and as it's a melee weapon, you are vulnerable to any attacks fron afar. However, you can easily run into a group of gangsters and slay them in a matter of seconds. Pick your victims carefully and be aware from any attacks from other directions.
6 Drive-By 35 Gang Members Uzi Vice Point (southwest) - near the end of the cul-de-sac on the road north from the entrance to Avery Carrington's construction site. As with Rampage 2, you want to use a fast motorcycle to help you complete it. Otherwise, this Rampage should be simple.
7 Kill 30 Gang Members SPAS-12 Shotgun Vice Point (southeast) - At this area is the Standing Vice Point Hotel, with a pool behind it. At the southeast side is the Rampage, south of the pool. Head north into the pool area, and you should generate enough gangsters in this confined space. The Combat Shotty makes this Rampage easy, as long as you know where to go next.
8 Kill 10 Gang Members .308 (Laser) Sniper Rifle Vice Point (southeast) - On the top diving board of the Standing Vice Point Hotel pool. The top board gives you a good vantage point, and the pool generates enough gangsters for you to slay. As long as you have a steady shot, this is an easy Rampage to complete.
9 Kill 25 Gang Members MP5 Washington Beach (southwest) - West of Bunch of Tools hardware store is an apartment complex overlooking Starfish Island. The Rampage is at the east side of the small office. Head back out onto the streets of Washington Beach and start killing any gangster you find. The MP5 is an immensly powerful sub-machine gun, and so you should have no problem completing it if you can take down your targets quickly.
10 Kill 25 Gang Members Shotgun Ocean Beach (north) - In the southwest corner of the top level parking lot of the Washington Mall. Jump down into the Mall area and pick off your enemies. Time may be against you here if you cannot chase down and take out many targets. You should look for groups of gangsters rather than ones standing on their own.
11 Kill 25 Gang Members M4 Ocean Beach (northeast) - Southeast of the Ocean View Hospital are two black-and-white buildings. The Rampage is near the entrance of the western building. The M4 is a powerful gun, but you may have to contend with the recoil if you don't have free aim. Stay on the ledge you had to jump on to activate this Rampage, and use it as a vantage point when picking off enemies.
12 Killl 20 Gang Members Chainsaw Ocean Beach (central) - Behind the fence of a pink building south of the Gas Station. Again, you are battling against the disadvantages of using this weapon, but keep moving, look out for any gangsters from other directions, find groupings of enemies and make short work of them.
13 Kill 10 Gang Members Katana Ocean Beach (central) - North of the Ocean Beach Pay 'n' Spray are green-and-white apartment buildings. The Rampage is next to a tree in this area. This Rampage is one of the most annoying ones you have to contend with. The Katana is a poor melee weapon, and it leaves you easily vulnerable. Plus, the game will give Tommy a tendency to kill gangsters by kicking them once they're down, which means that the kill won't count. Run into a group and swipe your blade, let them get up, and repeat until you hit the target. This is quite difficult for the novices.
14 Kill 25 Gang Members .308 (Laser) Sniper Rifle Ocean Beach (central) - On the edge of the roof joined to the Ocean Beach parking garage, north of the Pole Position Club. Use the ledge as a vantage point, and pick off your enemies from a distance. This adds some difficulty from Rampage 8, but only because you have to achieve a higher target. Otherwise, this is pretty easy.
15 Kill 30 Gang Members Molotov Cocktails Ocean Beach (southeast) - On the rocky plain at the southeast corner of the island, near the beach. You will need to have a good aim with the Molotovs, but if you have obtained the fireproof feature from the Firefighter Mission, you can toss them at your feet when standing next to the gangsters, and they will not fight back.
16 Run Over 30 Gang Members Vehicle Ocean Beach (southeast) - North of the Lighthouse, on the beach near the water's edge. Get off the sands, get a vehicle if you haven't already, and start making roadkill. This is one of the more simple, and I daresay the more relaxing Rampages to complete.
17 Run Over 35 Gang Members Vehicle Starfish Island (west) - In front of the brown house at this end of the Island. Get out of the driveway and onto the streets, and start making roadkill. Again, this is easy and therapeutic once you have found your way out.

West Island

No. 1 Objective Weapon District & Location Notes
18 Kill 30 Gang Members Flamethrower Downtown - By the walkway to the helipad at the north facing of the Hyman Memorial Stadium. The Flamethrower makes this Rampage an easy one. The gangsters will not fight back, and will instead run for their lives. Unless you have a problem chasing them down, this is laughable as a challenge.
19 Kill 30 Gang Members Minigun Downtown - To the northeast end of the district, behind a sculpture inside a building courtyard. The Minigun is immensely powerful, so you should have no trouble with this Rampage.
20 Kill 40 Gang Members Molotov Cocktails Downtown - Next door to the west of the VCN Building (which is enterable and has a Maverick on the helipad. Stick around Ammunation, or the main streets at least. Having the fireproof feature from the Firefighter Mission will help you here.
21 Kill 25 Gang Members Equalizer Pistol Downtown - Atop the stairs of the building across the street from Ammunation. The Equalizer Pistol can easily take down a small gathering of gangsters in seconds if you have quick fingers. Switching targets is key to completing this Rampage.
22 Drive By 35 Gang Members Uzi Downtown - To the south of the Pizza Parlor is an alley that forms a loop. The Rampage is located down the alley. Use a motorcycle to give you better bearings on your enemies and to make sure you can avoid any obstacles you may not see. Otherwise, this Rampage is simple.
23 Kill 30 Gang Members M60 Downtown - Tucked in a corner next to the northern section of the Moist Palms Hotel. This Rampage shouldn't prove too difficult, despite having to deal with the recoil of this piece of heavy weaponry. Your targets are easy pickings.
24 Kill 30 Gang Members Tec-9 Little Haiti - Northeast of the Printworks are small shacks. The Rampage is located behind the pale-green shack. The Tec-9 is not the best submachine gun - in fact, the shooting rate and power make it a rather bad choice in weaponry. You may have to grit your teeth and hope for the best for this one.
25 Kill 10 Gang Members Katana Little Havana - Around the back of El Banco Corrupto Grande, the bank you robbed in "The Job" for the Malibu Club Asset. This pans out the same as Rampage 13, and the Katana makes it just as difficult. Following procedure for Rampage 13 is the best way to go about this one. Good luck.
26 Kill 25 Gang Members Shotgun Little Havana - In the middle of a basketball court located in the center of the northwestern block of the district. The Shotgun is a powerful weapon - if the first shot doesn't kill your target, it'll at least knock them down. You can also take advantage of the spray this thing gives off to knock down multiple targets that are standing close to each other. This Rampage is simple.
27 Kill 20 Gang Members Sniper Rifle Little Havana - On top of the building next to the Cherry Popper Ice Cream Factory. It is only accessible by helicopter. You don't have the comfort of a clip like you do with the .308 (Laser), but this Rampage is easy as long as you have a steady aim. Use the rooftop as your vantage point and take down your targets as a true assassin would.
28 Kill 20 Gang Members Ruger Little Havana - On the top of the building across the street to the south of Cafe Robina. Stairs lead up to the roof behind the building. You can use the rooftop as a vantage point, but the gangsters tend to run into the building and giving you an impossible angle for you to shoot at them. In fact, you may find this Rampage easier by hunting your targets down on the ground. The power of the Ruger is enough to get you through otherwise.
29 Kill 35 Gang Members SPAS-12 Shotgun Escobar Intl./Little Haiti - Head south from the Pizza Stack in Little Haiti and continue south until you find the "Welcome to Hell" billboard. Head towards it and down the alley near it, and turn left to find the icon. The shotty will make quick work of your enemies. Just make sure you are able to cut down enough groups of gang members and you should have no probelm completing this Rampage.
30 Destroy 15 Vehicles Minigun Escobar Intl. Airport - At the expanse of grass to the east of Fort Baxter Air Base. The Minigun makes quick work of enemies and can destroy vehicles in seconds. You want to be careful that you do not encourage the game to spawn soldiers, whose M4s will make this Rampage harder. If they are not present, then this is a very easy Rampage to tick off.
31 Destroy 12 Vehicles Rocket Launcher Escobar Intl. Airport - On top of the Main Terminal. Land a helicopter on the roof or use the Stunt Jump located nearby to get access. Get off the roof and head back into the busier parts of the island. Funnily enough, I had trouble trying to get enough vehicles to spawn. Unless the game is being generous, do not stick around the Main Terminal.
32 Kill 25 Gang Members SPAS-12 Shotgun Escobar Intl. Airport - Under one of the walkways inside the Main Terminal. Again, the SPAS-12 is no problem as a very useful weapon. You would be unlucky not to have enough groups of gang members spawn, but it can happen. Otherwise, you can enjoy a simple Rampage.
33 Kill 35 Gang Members Grenades Viceport - In the bushes to the south of The Hooker Inn, the small hotel on the road to the Airport. Grenades present an obvious problem - accuracy in the throw is heavily relied upon. Go up to a group, perform a short throw and run. Repeat until you reach your target. That is the best advice I can give you. Luck may play a part.
34 Destroy 15 Vehicles Rocket Launcher Viceport - Get onto the ship docked on the east side of Viceport, head past one of the large pillars and you should find the icon to your left. Get back onto land and start blasting away. The game shuld spawn enough vehicles for you to destroy.
35 Destroy 10 Vehicles Rocket Launcher Vice City - To the southern end of the map, on one of the Waterhouses. You are best off getting a helicopter, activating the Rampage, flying over to the multi-storey parking lot in Ocean Beach and working your way through the vehicles there, heading onto the street to meet your target. Make sure you have quick transport back to the mainland.
