Before Sequence 1 begins, you'll be Desmond coming to a Precursor site outside of Boston. You'll have minor control of him, allowing you to walk around to different areas but for the most part, you only need to walk forward and down as you are allowed.
Eventually, you'll pass out and walk up in the Animus. This will begin Sequence 1 where you first get some practice in and then become Haytham Kenway during the 1750's.
