When you get back to Davenport, a man will come up to the manor yelling about his friend who is floating down stream. Go back outside and talk to the man to start the memory.
Follow the man down the path towards the river to see his friend floating by. You need to catch up with him and save him but this is going to be tough. There is a constraint keeping you from hitting the water. If you can get close enough to him, you can jump towards him and save him before hitting the water. It is definitely best to stick to the paths but be careful of the wolves that will attack. It may be faster to cross the river and move up along the right side than staying on the left side.
Save him and his friend will find the two of you on the bank of the river.
