Don't Starve Characters List
Playable Characters
-
Wilson (Don't Starve)
Wilson is the first playable character in the game and so far the only character with any backstory. For this reason, he's considered to be the "Main Character". He is an average character with the unique ability to grow a beard which provides protection from the cold in the winter and, when shaved, produces Beard Hair for use in a Meat Effigy.
-
Maxwell (Don't Starve)
Maxwell is the main antagonist of the game. Through completing Adventure mode, you can discover his motives for what he does and acquire him as a main character. It is highly likely that he was previously known as the Magician William Carter before his arrival in the world of Don't Starve. He is likely responsible for most of the harmful or dangerous creatures in the world and even possibly for the worlds themselves.
-
Wolfgang (Don't Starve)
Wolfgang is the strongest and has the most base health of all of the character. He has a larger stomach which provides benefits when full but penalizes him when he is hungry. In addition, his sanity drops faster than others when in the dark or near monsters
-
Wendy (Don't Starve)
Wendy is one of the weakest characters in the game but she comes with a friend: Abigail. Abigail is a ghost who protects Wendy. She can be summoned through the use a special flower that Wendy has. Once used, Wendy loses a little Sanity but then Abigail will defend Wendy. She will attack any non-pet creatures (and does more damage at night) and won't hurt Wendy. She regains health after being damaged and when she dies, she leaves the flower so she can be summoned again (after a cooldown).
Likely because of her comfort with Abigail, Wendy loses Sanity slower than other characters.
-
Willow (Don't Starve)
Willow is the Don't Starve resident Pyro. She is impervious to Heat/Fire damage and gets a Sanity bonus from being near flames. She also carries a lighter which acts like a very small Torch with infinite fuel. Unfortunately, she has a smaller Sanity guage and lights fires randomly when her sanity gets too low. This can result in accidentally fires that can destroy quite a few resources.
-
WX-78
WX-78 is a dynamic character and potentially the most powerful however he starts off as one of the weakest characters. His Health, Hunger and Sanity start out at 100 points each but can be upgraded by eating Gears to 400, 200 and 300 respectively.
The downside is that rain will cause damage to him (though the resulting sparks produce light). He is also the only character that can be hit by lightning and if he is, he'll become overloaded. The lightning strike itself will heal him but hurt his sanity while the overload will cause him to glow for 4-8 minutes and increase his speed during that time.
-
Wickerbottom
Wickerbottom starts with a high Sanity stat, a bonus tech level (meaning it's as if she starts with a Science Machine and she'll never need to build a Shadow Manipulator), and some Papyrus. Unfortunately, she's an insomniac so she can't sleep at night to regenerate lost sanity and she's a picky eater so eating rotting food will have bigger penalties than for other characters.
Wickerbottom has the ability to craft several special books that act as "spells" of a kind. When she reads the books (at the cost of some sanity) it will cause an effect around her such as summoning a flock of birds.
-
Woodie (Don't Starve)
Woodie starts with a special Axe called Lucy in his inventory and is capable of cutting down trees at nearly twice the speed of other characters. Lucy is indestructible and is a fully voiced character on her own speaking with a violin sound. As long as Lucy is out, she'll talk occasionally either about her surroundings or on the status of Woodie's Curse.
Woodie transforms into a Were-Beaver if he cuts down too many trees too quickly. When he transforms, he drops all of his items and loses half of his Health, Hunger, And Sanity. In return, he gains the ability to gnaw through or dig up rocks, trees, and bushes very quickly and is impervious to the Grue. To maintain this state, he has to eat wood and brush. Once he turns back, he'll have to find where his things were left and recover the stats he lost.
-
Wes (Don't Starve)
Wes is by far the weakest of the characters. His stats are the lowest and he doesn't talk at all to give you feedback (which makes it important to know your other audio cues). He does only 3/4 of normal damage and his hunger drains 25% faster than other characters. Because of all this, he is considered a "Hard Mode" character for veterans of the game.
The only true bonus that Wes has is that he has an unlimited number of balloons in his pocket which can be crafted into balloon animals. This MAY be used to distract attacking creatures but it does not always work.
NPCs
-
Lucy the Axe
Lucy the Axe is the faithful companion and friend of Woodie. She can be used in any way that a normal Axe can be used but she is indestructible and can talk. Aside from her normal Axe functions, she can also talk to help Woodie keep track of how close he is to transforming into his Were-Beaver form. She will also show up as a red axe on the world map in case you lose her.
-
Abigail (Don't Starve)
Abigail is Wendy's sister and a non-playable character in the game Don't Starve though what happened to her, we don't know. She can only be summoned by using a flower that appears in Wendy's inventory at the start of the game. Once summoned, she will protect Wendy from non-pet creatures in the world. She will follow Wendy around and won't harm Wendy. At night, Abigail provides a small amount of light and does more damage to enemies.
