Near the beginning of the game, after clearing the Deep Dark Wood dungeon, you will find a ghost boy in Ding Dong Dell named Horace. He is in the second area, by the shrine on the right side of the map. You will get the Spirit Medium spell at first, so use it again to talk to him, which will finish up this portion of the sidequest. Now, Horace will move from town to town and when you speak to him (with Spirit Medium), he will ask you a question that requires you to look through the Wizard's Companion.
Note that it doesn't really matter whether you enter your answer in all capital letters or not.
AL MAMOON
Horace is located near the milk fountains and he gives you a Tale of Wonder. The question he asks you pertains to this Tale, which is who is the third smallest of the four characters he lists. Of course, the answer is DRAGON OF THE WEST. Your reward is the Draw Poison spell.
CASTAWAY COVE
In this town, Horace is standing on the bridge overlooking the docks. He asks you to translate the Nazcaan script on the Tools of Wizardry page. This is page 13 of the Wizard's Companion, and the script you need to translate is situated on the wizard's robe; it's read from right to left. The answer to this riddle is FINEST FIBER. Your reward is the Vacate spell.
THE FAIRYGROUNDS
Horace is located in the small path that is between the actual town and the Fairy Godmother. He says he likes a good burger and there's one special something that all burgers need on it. Go to the Provisions part of the alchemy section (page 92 of the Wizard's Companion) to find two formulae for burgers, both of which have a common ingredient. The answer is CRISPY LETTUCE. You receive a formula for the Sage's Secret item as your reward.
HAMELIN
Once you arrive at Hamelin, you can find Horace standing on the large balcony overlooking the lower area of the town. He says there's a mural of the Wizard's War in the Companion, and asks you how many Automata familiars are pictured in that mural. This mural is on pages 212 and 213 of the Companion and you're looking for robot creatures basically, of which there are 5 of them. Your reward is the Chart Chests spell.
YULE
In Yule, Horace can be found in the building that belongs to the Elder. He is in the back, looking at a flower. He asks you what the name of the flower is, as it's a pretty rare one. You can find it on page 139 of the Wizard's Companion, where you see it is called a BLIZZARD BLOOM. Your reward for answering this riddle is the Cloudburst spell.
PERDIDA
You can find Horace in the Swift Solutions shop, by the Errands board. He asks you to look at the locations section in the Wizard's Companion and find the one Nazcaan symbol that only appears once throughout the whole section. To save you some time, the answer is OLD SMOKY (you can also enter JABAL AL-DUKHAN as your answer). Your reward for this riddle is the Veil spell, which is one of the better spells in the game.
DING DONG DELL
Horace will be in the same exact spot where you found him the first time, behind the shrine in the second area of the town. He asks you to translate the Nazcaan script on the front of the monument, which reads "Mix black stroke of first and second spell to make another that will serve you well." You need to look at the first two spells, which are Gateway and Form Familiar, and see the black strokes. Look for another spell which has those two strokes, which ends up being UNLEASH and the answer to the riddle. Your reward for this riddle is the Thunderstorm spell.
ARA MEMORIAE
This town holds the last appearance of Horace for this little sidequest. He won't appear until after you defeat Gallus in the Ivory Tower, so you can exit the tower after defeating him. He wants you to look for some robes in the Wizard's Companion, which has a warning on it. If you go to page 117 of the book, you'll find that one item has some red lettering, which spells out "beware." That item is the WIZARD'S ROBES. Your reward for this riddle is Astra spell, but you also unlock Errand 136.
