On your way back to Al Mamoon, you will feel the ground rumbling and notice that Old Smoky is about to erupt! Esther and Drippy say this shouldn't be happening, as there's a boulder on top that should prevent it from happening. Start heading over that way.
NOTE |
There is one Familiar that you should try to get on the path leading to Old Smoky, which is Little Bighorn. This Familiar is pretty resilient to physical attacks, as well as having pretty good resistances. |
On your way up the mountain, you'll encounter a section where you need to use the Bridge spell to get across. The rest of the way is clear, but make sure you grab the Spicy Seeds for Errand #048 from the sparkling spots. It's time to begin the next dungeon.
OLD SMOKY
When you first enter, make use of the Waystone to heal and save, then begin you ascent. At the first split, go east (the north path has nothing at the moment) and take the northern path (the southern path has a purple chest that you can't open yet). There's a chest on the right side that contains a Moondrop. For now, continue through the cave passage.
At the next split, head west to a dead end with two red chests that contain a Phoenix Feather and a Sandwich, as well as a blue chest that contains Flames Robe. Go back and take the other path to continue up the volcano. You'll come upon another split, with the north path leading to a red chest with a Burning Blade inside (don't equip it until you finish this dungeon).
Continue up the volcano until you get to another Waystone, so heal up and save. Use the right path to continue, where you'll need to use Frostbite to cross the lava. A short cutscene will occur where Drippy says you only have three minutes to get to the top before the volcano will blow. This will put a timer on your screen that will only count down while on the field.
Shimmy along the ledge, being mindful of the lava gas coming out of the walls, then continue along the path ahead. There's a short diversion along the way, leading to a red chest with Strong Coffee in it. Besides another spot that requires Frostbite and one more stray path that leads to a red chest with a Cloud Cover, the rest of the way is a straight shot and you shouldn't really have to worry about the timer. Once you reach the top, the timer will stop and there will be a Waystone, so heal and save, getting ready for a boss...
BOSS: MOLTAAN |
If you've played the demo, this boss should look familiar, although you don't have overpowered Familiars to help you out this time. It has a few moves to watch out for, such as Blazing Breath, which hits in front of him and deals pretty good fire damage. He'll also charge up Tail Flail, which hits in front of him, too. His most devastating move, which cannot be dodged, is Volcanic Roar, so make sure you defend as soon as you see it pop up. Moltaan has a weak spot, which Drippy will point out not that long into the battle. Get behind him and attack its tail, and once enough damage has been accrued, it will be stunned, allowing you some free hits against it. If you can't keep Esther alive, don't bother, as she will likely die from the Volcanic Roars at some point. It might be best to keep at a distance with Oliver and continually fire off Frostbites. |
Once Moltaan is gone, use the teleporter that shows up to travel back to the foot of Old Smoky. Head back to Al Mamoon, where Rashaad will tell you that the next Great Sage is most likely in Hamelin, which is located on Autumnia. To get there, you'll need to procure a boat, which the nearest port is to the south. It's time to head to Castaway Cove.
NOTE |
Two new Bounties and one new Errand have appeared, so it might be wise to do those before heading to Castaway Cove. The Errand and one Bounty is near Old Smoky, while the other Bounty is near Castaway Cove. |
