When you're finally ready, go to the ship at Castaway Cove and set sail. After learning the controls of the ship, you're free to sail around the waters. It is important to note that you should stick to the waters and land in between your current location and your objective. This will limit the chances of you encountering very strong enemies that will wipe the floor with your party. You will now be able to use the world map with R1, so open that up and see where Autumnia is located to the northeast.
For now, head to the nearby group of islands. The idea here is to fight the enemies to power up your party some. You will want to do this for the upcoming boss battle, so make sure you don't to the star marker on your map yet. The three Bounties that have been available can now be done, but note that the monsters can be especially challenging.
Whenever you're ready, sail to the star marker to get thrown into a boss battle...

The only and only Shadar. You are not supposed to win this fight, which means your only objective is to either hit him as hard as possible, or survive. You need to get his health to around 50% for a cutscene to occur. Of course, he's not going to make it easy, as he is quick and powerful with his attacks. Pyre causes a pillar of flame to engulf a single target. Bleak Midwinter hits all party members for high damage. Fell Wind hits in front of Shadar for moderate damage. Basically, he hits like a truck and pulls off spells pretty quickly in succession. Keep yourselves healed at all times and keep firing off spells/attacks to dwindle his HP until the cutscene shows up. |
Once this new island, you find out that your ship is damaged and you have no idea where you are. The good news is that Swaine teaches you about going All-Out (defense and offense), which will definitely help in future battles. There's not much to do here, so head inside the marked town.
