The Hong Kong Police Department is one of the main focuses of Sleeping Dogs, playing an important role of the storyline and the side-content.
Wei Shen is ordered by his superior, Supt. Pendrew, into infiltrating the Sun On Yee in order for them to deal a crushing blow to organized crime in Hong Kong. The Police Cases are part of the storyline, and they introduce and include another character, Inspector Jane Teng. Raymond Mak features in the storyline as Wei's handler, making sure he doesn't cause trouble or get in too deep with the Triads. Another character, although not seen in the game, is Charles Ho, who gathered information on the Sun On Yee, but was killed when he was exposed.
The P.D. can be found regularly found on the streets, but you can still get in trouble and wind up apprehended if you are not cautious or careful. You can gain Heat by provoking the officers into action, and it can only be lost by outrunning them or disabling their patrol cars.
Over the course of the storyline, Wei's uses to the H.K.P.D., and vice versa, will be tested by his actions and the actions of others. It is the bread and butter of the storyline.
